In actuality, Vash is a huge softie who claims to have never taken a life and avoids violence at all costs.

With his crazy doughnut obsession and buffoonish attitude in tow, Vash traverses the wasteland of the planet Gunsmoke, all the while followed by two insurance agents, Meryl Stryfe and Milly Thompson, who attempt to minimize his impact on the public. But soon, their misadventures evolve into life-or-death situations as a group of legendary assassins are summoned to bring about suffering to the trio. 2. Shiki

Toshio and Natsuno form an unlikely pair as they work together to save Sotoba before it transforms into a ghost town of vampires.

Shiki, adapted from the horror novel written by Fuyumi Ono, goes beyond the average vampire story. It tells the tragic tale of survival in a world where one cannot easily distinguish between good and evil. Abandoned by God, the Shiki, as the vampires call themselves, have only their will to live as they clash with the fear of the paranoid/unbelieving villagers. Shiki explores the boundary that separates man from monster.

Students are taught that these creatures are not considered to be human, but Kei doesn't pay much attention in class. As a result, his perilously little grasp on this subject proves to be completely irrelevant when he survives an accident that was supposed to claim his life, signaling his rebirth as an Ajin and the start of his days of torment. 14. Baccano!

Genre : Action, Comedy, Supernatural, Historical, Mystery, Seinen

In addition, a war between the mafia groups is getting worse. On board the Advena Avis, in 1711, alchemists are about to learn the price of immortality.

Based on the award-winning light novels of the same name, Baccano! follows several events that initially seem unrelated, both in time and place, but are part of a much bigger story—one of alchemy, survival and immortality. Merging these events together are the kindhearted would-be thieves, Isaac and Miria, connecting various people, all of them with their own hidden ambitions and agendas, and creating lifelong bonds and consequences for everyone involved.

15. Mushishi

Genre : Adventure, Fantasy, Historical, Mystery, Seinen, Slice Of Life, Supernatural

"Mushi": the most basic forms of life in the world. They exist without any goals or purposes aside from simply "being." They are beyond the shackles of the words "good" and "evil." Mushi can exist in countless forms and are capable of mimicking things from the natural world such as plants, diseases, and even phenomena like rainbows.

This is, however, just a vague definition of these entities that inhabit the vibrant world of Mushishi, as to even call them a form of life would be an oversimplification. Detailed information on Mushi is scarce because the majority of humans are unaware of their existence.

So what are Mushi and why do they exist? This is the question that a "Mushi-shi," Ginko, ponders constantly. Mushi-shi are those who research Mushi in hopes of understanding their place in the world's hierarchy of life.

Ginko chases rumors of occurrences that could be tied to Mushi, all for the sake of finding an answer.

It could, after all, lead to the meaning of life itself.

Action Anime Recommendations

My Action Anime Recommendations

1. Attack On Titan

Several hundred years ago, humans were nearly exterminated by giants. Giants are typically several stories tall, seem to have no intelligence, devour human beings and, worst of all, seem to do it for the pleasure rather than as a food source. A small percentage of humanity survived by enclosing themselves in a city protected by extremely high walls, even taller than the biggest of giants. Flash forward to the present and the city has not seen a giant in over 100 years.
Teenage boy Eren and his foster sister Mikasa witness something horrific as the city walls are destroyed by a super giant that appears out of thin air. That is until one fateful day, he was drawn into the Holy Grail War and had to summon a female “Servant” known as Saber in order to protect himself.
It turns out that the Holy Grail War involves a series of battles among powerful sorcerors to fight for the possession of a relic that will grant one’s wishes, the Holy Grail. There are altogether seven “Masters” who can summon their respective “Servants” from different classes known as Saber, Archer, Rider, Berserker, Lancer, Caster and Assasin. These “Servants” have to hide their names in order not to reveal their weaknesses to the enemies. The story revolves around Shirou and his entanglement in the Holy Grail War.

4. Berserk

5. Black Lagoon

Okajima Rokuro is a Japanese businessman…in a town full of Japanese businessmen. His normal day consists of social drinking with clients and being kicked around by his bosses. He finally gets a break though, as he’s sent by his company to the tropical seas of Eastern China to deliver a disc…only his boat gets hijacked by a band of mercenaries that were hired to steal it. “Rock” (as he is newly dubbed by his captors) catches the interest of the only female merc “Revy” as she thinks he’s worth a ransom, taking him hostage. However, the disc turns out to be more trouble than its worth, and complicates things both for Rock, and the mercenaries known as Black Lagoon.

6. Darker Than Black

In Tokyo, an impenetrable field known as “Hell’s Gate” appeared ten years ago. At the same time, psychics who wield paranormal powers at the cost of their conscience also emerged. Hei is one of the most powerful of these psychic agents, and along with his blind associate, Yin, works for one of the many rival agencies vying to unlock the mysteries of Hell’s Gate.

7. Rakudai Kishi No Cavalry

Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry tells the story of Ikki Kurogane, a young academy student in an alternate version of our world where the merit of students is measured in terms of their innate magical abilities. Because of his apparent lack of any magical abilities whatsoever, he is shunned by his classmates and the faculty, who don’t realize that what he lacks in inherent magical powers, he more than makes up for with rigorous combat training and a strong moral fiber. When he is forced to become roommates with the voluptuous, magically-endowed Stella Vermillion, it sets him on a path to prove that a person should be measured by the effort they put into their deeds.
This show is perfect for fans of the action genre, as it has a ton of edge of your seat action in the form of duels between students, as well as dangerous encounters outside of campus grounds. Although the storytelling can be rather light-hearted, due in part to heaping doses of ecchi moments, when the weapons come out the slick animation makes sure the action is the star of the show.

8. Bungo Stray Dog

Perhaps one of the most stylish new anime to come out this past season, Bungo Stray Dogs tells the story of Nakajima Atsushi, a young orphan cast out of his home because of his connection to a serious of mysterious murders. He finds himself on the bank of a river, starved nearly to death, when he encounters Dazai Osamu, an eccentric man trying, unsuccessfully, to drown himself. This fateful encounter leads him to join the ranks of the Armed Detective Agency, which pits itself against the city’s criminal underbelly.
The word bungo loosely translates from Japanese as “literary master,” which is what almost the entirety of the cast is comprised of. Members of both the Armed Detective Agency, as well as their adversary, are inspired by real-life Japanese authors who were highly influential to the crime and mystery genres, and their abilities are in-turn inspired by their literary creations. The storytelling is as hard-boiled as it comes, and when these famous literary figures start slinging their powers, it’s sure to delight any fan of the action genre.

9. God Eater

Based off of the hit videogame series of the same name, God Eater is set in the near future, in Japan, where some of the last vestiges of humanity struggle against giant monsters known as Aragami, and the brave soldiers that battle them are known as “God Eaters.” Young military trainee Lenka joins the Fenrir Far East branch when it is discovered that he can utilize his “God Arc,” a weapon created from the DNA of Aragami to battle them, can switch between blade and gun form.
Like any war story worth watching, God Eater has a relatable cast of heroes to root for, forced to battle through situations where the stakes are literally life and death. In a world where success is measured by survival, lessons are often learned hard, and at the expense of your squad mates’ lives, the action of the show comes at the viewer's hard and fast, making it essential viewing for fans of the game, and action anime in general.

10. One Punch Man

In the fictional, Tokyo-inspired metropolis, City Z, day to day drudgery is the least of anyone’s problems. The city is prone to attacks from super-villains and monsters and is defended by the do-gooders in the Hero Association, always willing to come to the aid of citizens in their time of need. Amongst their ranks is Saitama, an unremarkable, milquetoast-looking man of unparalleled physical prowess, thus earning him the nickname, “one-punch man.” Years of training have pushed him to his peak, and he has grown bored with his ability to conquer even the greatest threats without breaking a sweat, so he constantly seeks more powerful opponents.
One Punch Man has exploded in popularity since it came onto the scene, and it’s easy to see why. With an endearing protagonist and a fun, sometimes infuriating cast of supporting heroes and villains, there’s a lot for the audience to get attached to. Which isn’t to mention the fight scenes, of which there are plenty, and often resolve themselves hilariously. Perhaps a bit light-hearted compared to other entries on the list, but One Punch Man is essential viewing for action fans.

11. Arlan Senki

The kingdom of Pars is an economic and cultural crossroads in the fictional, Middle Eastern-inspired world The Heroic Legend of Arslan. When Andragoras the 3rd falls victim to a sinister plot carried out by some of his most trusted advisors, it forces his son Arslan to flee his rightful home and sets him on a harrowing adventure for survival. Although Arslan is young, he has a good heart and inspires the loyalty of a small band of brave, intelligent warriors who work effortlessly to reclaim his throne.
The Heroic Legend of Arslan will scratch any fantasy or action fan’s itch for an epic adventure. With its ensemble cast of memorable characters, its historical scope, and sweeping scale, and its brutal action scenes, it’s a show that has captured the essence of a series that has endured multiple iterations in Japan. With another season right around the corner, it’s the perfect time to catch up.

12. Hundred

In the aftermath of the battle, the sky is now in plain view, prompting Simon and Kamina to set off on a journey alongside Yoko to explore the wastelands of the surface. Soon, they join the fight against the "Beastmen," humanoid creatures that terrorize the remnants of humanity in powerful robots called "Gunmen." Although they face some challenges and setbacks, the trio bravely fights these new enemies alongside other survivors to reclaim the surface, while slowly unraveling a galaxy-sized mystery.

15. Full Metal Alchemist : Brotherhood

Top 10 Horror Anime

1. Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni

It’s June 1983 and the place is a fictional quiet rural village known as Hinamizawa. The protagonist Keiichi Maebara decides to leave his hometown for Hinamizawa after having witnessed several unfortunate events in his hometown. He spends most of his time in the company of his school friends, leading a carefree life and playing games with them. However, Hinamizawa, like most sleepy towns, has a dark secret. Appearances can be deceiving here. Keiichi stumbles upon the news of a murder in Hinamizawa one day, which is then followed by a number of mysterious events. He discovers that his good friends at school may not be all that good after all. As different events start unfolding in different situations, the story takes a horrifically gory turn. There is nothing more scary than a group of friendly whack jobs who just won't leave you alone!

2. Another

Sitting on the second spot in this list is Another, one of the most terrifying horror anime in existence. Featuring 12 episodes full of creepy and mysterious murders, this one has the word scary written all over it (in blood, of course). Yomijama North Middle School’s Class 3-3 made a bad name for itself after a student died there in the year 1972, followed by everyone pretending as if nothing had happened. Because of a curse, all its teachers, students, and their family members are at the risk of dying horrible deaths in a plot akin to the movie Final Destination.
Kouichi is a new transfer student to class 3-3. He soon starts noticing a girl named Mei that no one else can see. The curse starts to claim lives once again. The survivors must somehow find a way to stop these terrifying deaths and get to the root of the problem. The mystery of the story keeps playing with the viewers’ expectations right till the very end. You see new mysterious elements getting thrown in regularly, some simply introduced to send you down the wrong path. Hence, you shouldn't try to predict anything. Its intrigue and unpredictability are scary enough to help you breeze (or run screaming) past its twelve episodes.

3. Corpse Party-Tortured Soul

Third on this list is another excellent scary anime, Corpse Party – Tortured Souls, an ultra-short scary anime series with only 4 episodes-4 horror-filled terrifying episodes, to be precise! Its story takes place inside Heavenly Host, an elementary school which is destroyed because of the recurring disappearances and murders of its students and staff members. As time passes by, another school named Kisaragi Academy is built at the former site of the mysterious Heavenly Host School.
One fine night, a group of Kisaragi Academy students decide to tell scary ghost stories. When they do, a sudden earthquake rocks the place and these students are transported into a dimension where the Heavenly Host School still exists. What’s troubling is that the school is haunted by the scary ghosts of murdered students who used to study there.

4. Hellsing

Belonging more to the fantasy genre of horror anime, Hellsing is a fairly short anime series that has won millions of hearts with its depiction of classic fantasy creatures, vampires and action. We all know of Van Helsing, the popular vampire Hunter of the Dracula legend, who slays oddities even after his demise. This one is heavily inspired from his scary story. It follows the adventures of a vampire named Alucard and his partner Seras Victoria, who’s a police agent-turned-vampire. They work for a vampire extermination organization named Hellsing in England.
Alucard’s main task is to seek and destroy any threat from the supernatural and undead forces that are after the life of England’s Queen and the country itself. You can see Alucard, Seras and their comrades fighting off evil vampires in terrifyingly scary situations. It is one of those anime that you can watch to get into its manga version, but without any spoilers.

5. Tokyo Ghoul

A boy named Ken Kaneki is the protagonist of the series. He meets a cute bookworm going by the name Rize, who’s actually a ghoul. Ghouls are way above the average zombies as they look exactly like humans and can easily blend into the society. How they’re different from humans is that while humans eat everything apart from humans, ghouls can only eat humans. What's more, they have special powers to hunt their victims!
Rize ends up inside Kaneki’s body but is unable to eat his flesh, and gets killed in the process, bringing Ken quite close to death too. Her organs are transplanted into Ken, to save his life, turning him into a hybrid. Now, even though Ken has the morals of an average human being, his powers and needs are almost the same as other ghouls. This horror anime is a perfect mix of terror, mystery and tragedy!

6. Elfen Lied

A classic horror anime, Elfen Lied has enough cruelty and bloodshed to appeal to all horror movie lovers. Elfen Lied features human-like mutants with horns, referred to as Diclonius, who have strong telekinetic powers among many other abilities. They’re all locked up and isolated from society inside a research center, run by the government. Their strongest member escapes from the facility, killing all the guards in the process. She gets shot in her head and winds up on a beach with a couple of teenage cousins. The boys take the naked and crazy girl home, oblivious of her true identity and not realizing the kind of impact their actions will have on their lives. Although Elfen Lied perfectly delivers on the horror front, it manages to keep things light by tackling multiple themes.

7. Parasyte

What’s a horror movie or horror anime list if it doesn’t have some aliens and body horror based titles in it?! Parasyte comfortably assumes the seventh position on this list, being full of body horror, alien invasions and pseudo-cannibalism. The main character of the series is a 17-year-old boy named Shinichi Izumi who lives in a quiet Tokyo neighborhood, along with his parents. The entire neighborhood becomes the central point of a horror fest when it is invaded by worm-like aliens, who enter humans via their noses or ears, turning them into monsters.
Shinichi also encounters one such alien who fails to enter his body, and rather ends up digging into his arm. Shinichi somehow manages to prevent it from infecting any other part of his body. It turns him into a sort of hybrid with both entities (human and the alien arm) retaining their personality and intellect. Although it's a remake of an old manga that ran from 1988 to 1995, its visuals are all contemporary. Despite being overloaded with cannibalism and blood, Parasyte is a horror anime that also explores several profound morality-related questions about life.

8. Ghost Stories

9. Jigoku Shoujo

Did you know? There's a website online that you can only visit at midnight. It's called the Hotline to Hell, and all it has is a black background a sentence saying: "I will exact your vengeance." If you type a name into the box, you can choose to enter into a contract that curses your target to hell immediately-as long as you too follow when you die. Enma Ai, the Hell Girl, is the middleman who creates the contracts and sets them in action. This anime is not the most gory, but it explores the horrors of the human heart. No one is pure evil, and no one is innocent.

10. Shiki

Although Shiki may seem meandering on certain occasions, underneath the cheerful voice overs, amazing animation and colourful appearances, you’ll find something very sinister at play. The story follows 15-year-old Megumi Shimizu who dies unexpectedly in the quiet village of Sotoba, resulting in a ferocious epidemic and plenty of blood and terror. Then enters Toshio Ozaki, a young doctor who in search of truth decides to abandon his humanity. Anime That Can Make You Cry

Here Some Anime That Right Into The Feel

1. Clannad

What better way to start our list of sad anime than with the two of the most notorious tearjerkers of all: Clannad and its highly-praised sequel Clannad: After Story. Clannad is a raw, emotionally engaging anime. It starts out typically, with a depressed guy who attends a new high school and finds himself in a harem situation. This show truly shines through its characters. They all have sad, realistic and sympathetic backstories. They begin to form strong relationships which help them all to mend. However, and this is where Clannad is unique, the characters move on. They grow up. They are thrown apart by life. That’s right. Clannad, but mainly, Clannad: After Story explores the ups and downs of characters' lives after high school. In particular though, the growing relationship between two very special characters really makes our hearts melt.

2. Angel Beats!

Ever watched Angel Beats? The story focuses around a group of teenagers (of course), but the setting is truly unique. The high school serves as a place for souls of people who have passed, but can not give up lingering attachments to life and loved ones. In other words, they can not rest in peace; they have to learn to let go. Already sounds sad doesn’t it? As if the setting wasn’t enough, the characters' constant grief and pain make the show almost unbearable to watch. The characters' sad situations and unlikely friendships will definitely bring out those tears.

3. Shigatsu Wa Kimi No Uso

The anime, Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso (Your Lie in April), explores life, the importance of love and friendship, and the joy of music. Arima Kousei is a young piano prodigy. His mother's death causes intense psychological trauma that prevents him from playing the piano, or from hearing music the same way. An encounter with the talented violinist, Miyazono Kaori, begins to slowly set him back on the path to music. This one has heartbreaking illness, beautiful character relationships, and music. This series was a wake-up call from the anime industry saying ‘I’m still here, and I’m still a beautiful thing.

4. Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica

Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica (Puella Magi Madoka Magica) is hard to explain… It is not your typical magical girl anime series. It is dark as hell. With its broken characters and a setting beyond depressing, this is a spectacular series. If you’re expecting a happy-go-lucky magical girl series, you will not find it here. Watch Madoka Magica fully prepared for the dark and sad setting. Prepare to cry!

5. Anohana

AnoHana (The Flower We Saw That Day) features broken characters whose past mistakes create an unbearable burden. The story centers around a group of friends in their teenage years. A tragic accident separates them. They spend their days trying to shake off individual guilt. The characters' intense emotions tug the core of your heart and don't let go til the very end! After you watch this anime, just hearing the ending song will bring you to tears!

6. Ookami No Kodomo Ame To Yuki

By the director of The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Ookami Kodomo no Ame to Yuki starts off adorable, but really punches you in the gut with its feels. A human girl falls in love with a werewolf, and has two kids. Unfortunately, she ends up having to raise her children alone. Those with single parents or are single parents themselves will understand Hana's plight, even if Hana's troubles are part-canine. Aside from showing how deep a mother's love can go, this tearjerker is an emotional coming of age film, showing how the two half-wolf children change as they mature.

7. Plastic Memories

Yes, this anime is full of cute girls, but it's suprisingly sad. I mean, said cute girls are Giftia robots, and they only have lifespans of a few short years. Mortality and what it means to be human are themes of this show. The main character Tsubasa Mizugaki is human, and he works in what is basically a retirement facility for run-down Giftia. He doesn't think he'll get too attached, because after all, they're robots without feelings of their own, right?

Note:

Different anime make different people cry. Some cry more. Anime has a habit of running us over with the feelings train. An anime that is not classified as ‘sad’ can still make us cry like babies!  It has scenes that will make us cry. Even the conclusion of our favourite series could make us cry. Watching these shows will definitely further your anime knowledge and teach you a thing or two about the ups and downs of life in general. So grab your tissues, sweatpants, chocolate, ice cream and crying pillows, and prepare to cry like a three year old with these amazing series!
